How to Play Jeffland
The setup you need to know
Three teams of four players compete to paint the majority of the new Jeffland map in their team's color. Matches last three minutes, with victory awarded to the team with the highest percentage of area covered when time expires.
Players can paint over opponent territory to claim it, while a real-time gauge at the top of the screen tracks each team's progress.
Each match will last three minutes, and once time is up, whichever team has the most area covered wins. Eliminating others will also paint the area where they were in your team's colour.
This is the only 4v4v4 three-team mode in Marvel Rivals, so the dynamics are completely different from anything else. You're not just competing against one opponent. You're competing against two.
Playing the mode properly (offense)
Prioritize unpainted ground first. Painting fresh territory is faster than painting over an enemy's existing color. At the start of the match, sprint to the largest open area and spray it down. This builds an early lead.
Then paint over enemy color. Once the unpainted ground is mostly claimed, the only way to grow your share is to convert enemy territory. Hit the largest enemy zone first since it gives the biggest score swing.
Don't ignore the back walls and corners. Even small areas count. Painting an enemy's back corner that they ignored is free score that they can't easily counter.
Eliminations matter for territory control. Eliminating others will also paint the area where they were in your team's colour. So even though it's a paint mode, kills aren't useless. They convert the kill spot to your color and prevent the enemy from painting more.
Playing the mode properly (defense)
Defend your largest territories. You can't watch the whole map, so prioritize protecting the zones that contribute the most to your score. Use Jeff's mobility for fast rotations. Jeff's swim ability through painted ground (similar to Splatoon's ink swimming) lets you reposition quickly. Use this to react to enemy pushes.
Don't get sandwiched between two teams. In 4v4v4, you can be caught between two enemies fighting each other or coordinated to push you. Watch the score gauge at the top. If one team is dominating, the other two might collude (informally) to take them down.
Playing the mode properly (advanced tactics)
Play the third-party game. With three teams, you can let two enemies fight each other while you paint freely. When you see Red and Blue clashing in the middle, sprint to the edges and paint everything they're ignoring.
Watch the leader. If one team is at 50% and you're at 30%, focus all your aggression on that team to chip down their score. If you're the leader, play defensively and protect your existing territory.
Spread out as a team. Four players all painting the same area is wasted output. Split into pairs, with each pair covering a different section of the map.
Use the rebirth painted areas. Eliminations paint where the enemy was eliminated. Group fights in contested zones are doubly valuable since you both convert the area and prevent enemy painting.
General things that matter
Move constantly. The core idea stays the same: move constantly, spray as much territory as possible, and leverage Jeff's mobility and crowd control to hold key routes. Standing still means you stop painting.
High scores come from painting and objective play, not from chasing kills. Don't tunnel on enemy Jeffs. Eliminations are nice, but raw paint coverage wins matches.
Use Jeff's ult strategically. The ult can swallow multiple enemies, removing them from the map temporarily. Use it during contested moments when your team needs a few seconds of breathing room to paint freely.
Use vertical areas. Jeffland likely has elevated platforms and ramps. Paint these too, since they count toward your total. Some areas are easier to defend than others, so prioritize protecting the spots that opponents can't easily reach.
Event-specific notes
Winter rewards tied to this mode in Season 5.5 focus more on participation in the new map and match completion, rather than the Gallery Card structure of the first Winter Celebration. However, the underlying lesson from the earlier event still applies: high scores come from painting and objective play, not from chasing kills.
Last year's Jeff's Winter Splash Festival was a hit, and this year we're turning up the festive fun. The entire mode and scene have been revamped, with new styles and even more ways to play.
Event rewards include progression through Wintery Atmosphere tracks, cosmetics, and free items like the Cuddly Fuzzlefin skin (returning from 2024). The 2025 version also has tie-ins with the Magneto Black & Gold costume and other premium rewards.
This was a limited-time event. The mode ran from December 18, 2025 to January 29, 2026, so it's not currently in the standard rotation. However, since the 2024 version returned in 2025, Jeff's Winter Splash Festival has now become an annual winter tradition for Marvel Rivals. Expect it to return for the December 2026 winter event in some form, likely with new modifications or hero options.
Last thing: this is a casual fun mode designed for chaotic team play, not competitive grinding. The three-team format means matches are unpredictable, and individual mechanical skill matters less than positioning and map awareness. If you queue with a four-stack and coordinate role assignments (2 Painters, 1 Eliminator, 1 Tactical), you'll dominate solo queue teams consistently. Solo queueing is more luck-dependent since you can't guarantee your team will balance the roles, but Painter Jeff is the safest solo pick since paint output is the most direct path to winning.
