How to Play Mantis

  • Manage Life Orbs: Aim for critical hits with Life Energy Blast to generate Life Orbs quickly. Balance using and conserving orbs to maintain a steady flow of support abilities.
  • Optimize Healing: Use Healing Flower on allies in danger, especially frontline Vanguards. Spread healing across the team rather than focusing on a single target.
  • Empower Damage Dealers: Apply Allied Inspiration to high-damage allies, particularly Duelists, to maximize offensive potential. Use Natural Anger when you need to secure kills or push aggressively.
  • Master Spore Slumber: Use this ability defensively to protect teammates or offensively to set up kills. It can interrupt enemy ultimates and create opportunities for your team.
  • Time Ultimate Wisely: Save Soul Resurgence for crucial team fights or to counter enemy burst damage. It provides healing, movement speed, and bonus health, potentially turning the tide of battle.

Mantis Combos

  1. Orb refund: spend an orb on Healing Flower (Right Click), then land a critical hit with Life Energy Blast (Left Click). Each crit gives an orb back without waiting for the 4-second recharge, so accurate aim lets her keep heals and buffs going together.
  2. Power spike: Allied Inspiration (E) on your Duelist and Natural Anger (F) on herself before a push. The ally gets 8% damage and 1 m/s of speed and she gets 12% damage, each lasting 8 seconds per orb.
  3. Peel and heal: Spore Slumber (Shift) on a diver attacking your backline, then Healing Flower (Right Click) on the ally they hit. The diver sleeps for up to 3.5 seconds, enough for the 60 instant heal and the heal-over-time to kick in, as long as nobody hits the sleeping target.
  4. Ultimate push: Soul Resurgence (Q), then Allied Inspiration (E) on the front line. Allies within 15 m get 200 healing at once, 150 per second for 8 seconds and extra speed, while the buffed ally hits 8% harder.

Strengths

  • Her healing does not need constant aim: one Healing Flower heals 60 at once and keeps healing for 8 seconds per orb, up to 16, so she can spread it across the team and then go back to shooting.
  • Allied Inspiration gives an ally 8% damage and 1 m/s of speed, and Natural Anger gives her 12% damage, so her orbs also raise the team's damage output.
  • Spore Slumber puts the nearest enemy to sleep for 3.5 seconds on a 15-second cooldown, which stops a diver before they reach the backline.
  • Soul Resurgence heals allies within 15 m for 200 at once and 150 per second for 8 seconds, turning up to 150 overheal into bonus health, which keeps a team standing through a long fight.

Weaknesses

  • With 250 health and no dash, only a 1.5 m/s boost after 3 seconds out of combat, she is easy prey for divers such as Black Cat and Magik.
  • Spore Slumber is her only self-defense and ends as soon as the sleeping target takes damage or its 100-health illusion is destroyed, so it buys time against one diver, not two.
  • All her heals and buffs share four orbs that return one every 4 seconds, so spending them on damage buffs leaves less for Healing Flower unless she keeps landing critical hits.

  • Star-Lord: Mantis can pick Star Blossom, where a second Healing Flower on the same ally boosts their healing and spreads it to allies within 8 m. With Star-Lord on the team the first cast already gets that effect, so every orb heals a small group instead of one player.
  • Adam Warlock: with Vitality Pact, Mantis turns into a soul when she is defeated, healing allies within 8 m for 5 per second before she reforms at a spot she picks. With Adam on the team that soul can also bond with allies to share the damage they take.
  • Loki and Groot: both have a loadout that Mantis enhances. Loki's Vibrant Vitality gives allies in Regeneration Domain 15% damage, and with Mantis on the team it also hits enemies there for 45 and lifts them; Groot's Wild Wall heals 20 per second, rising to 35 once it evolves with her around.
  • A high-damage Duelist such as Iron Man: Allied Inspiration's 8% damage and 1 m/s of speed last 8 seconds per orb, up to 16, so it pays off most on a hero who is dealing damage the whole time.

Mantis Counters

Mantis has 250 health and no dash, so dive her as soon as Spore Slumber goes on its 15-second cooldown. Divers like Black Cat and Magik reach her fast, and going in with two at once means a single sleep cannot stop both. If a teammate is put to sleep, shoot the 100-health illusion behind them to wake them straight away.
