How to Play Throne of Knull
The setup you need to know
Throne of Knull was a Resource Rumble map, which is a unique game mode that doesn't follow standard Convoy, Convergence, or Domination rules. In Resource Rumble, players had to randomly unlock three resource points. Players managed the points, acquired resources, and battled against each other. The team that reaches the goal score first wins.
Just like other Klyntar maps, it featured stretchable symbiotic masses and speed pads. Hit the symbiotes to extend bridges or block passages, and use the speed pads to traverse the map quickly.
Playing offense (controlling resources)
Split attention across the three resource points. Unlike Convoy or Domination where one objective matters, Resource Rumble required tracking three at once. Send two players to contest one point, two to defend another, and have a rotator who can swing between them.
Use the speed pads constantly. The mode rewards fast rotation, and the pads are how you outpace the enemy team across three contested points. Pop ults when multiple enemies cluster on a resource point. Phoenix, Punisher, Storm, Jeff, and Scarlet Witch ults all snowball resource control.
Playing defense (holding what you've got)
Don't sit all six on one point. The enemy team will just take the other two while you camp. Spread out and trade pressure. Use the symbiotic masses to block enemy approaches to your held points. A well-timed extension can buy your team time to reinforce a contested spot.
Watch the score gap. If you're ahead, you can afford to play slightly more defensively. If you're behind, force engagements on contested points instead of waiting for the enemy to push you.
General things that matter
Since this map is no longer in the standard rotation, most current players have very limited experience with it. If you're queueing Custom Games to play it, expect chaos. Teams that learn the rotation patterns and ult timing will outpace teams just playing the game mode for the first time.
Bonus: there's an achievement called "Whispers of Oblivion" tied to this map. To unlock it, head to Point A (usually the left door from your spawn), find Knull tied up in the chasm area, get close, and wait for a special voice line to play. Stay near the chasm after arriving and let the game trigger the dialogue. You need to finish the match too. Sometimes the trigger glitches if multiple players reach the spot first, so try to be the first one there.
Last thing: since Resource Rumble has been removed from the game and this map only exists in Custom Games now, treat this as a piece of game history rather than competitive prep. If you're hunting the achievement or just curious about the Knull lore (he's tied up at the central chasm and you can listen to his dialogue), it's worth a Custom Game visit. The map is expected to return in a revamped form for the 18 v 18 Annihilation mode, so a new version may be playable in the future under different rules.
