How to Play Heart of Heaven

The setup you need to know

Heart of Heaven is a Convergence map combining a capture point and payload system. You'll be fighting over a central point that moves around as the match progresses.

The defining mechanic is the fog. Projectiles can cut through it to briefly clear vision, but it returns in under thirty seconds. This puts long-range heroes at a huge disadvantage, while melee, flankers, and divers suddenly become super useful.

There are also limited health packs across the map, which makes sustain way more important than usual.

Playing as attacker

For the capture phase, push together. This is a Convergence map, so a wipe during the cap can reset progress. Don't feed one by one. Use the elevated positions. All three main sections of the map offer strong high-ground angles. The high ground lets you control enemy movement and punish defenders trying to set up.

When fog rolls in, this is when to commit aggressively. Swap to your dive or melee picks if you've been running range, and use the reduced visibility to close gaps you couldn't otherwise. Defenders relying on snipers go from threatening to useless almost instantly.

For the convoy phases, you have the payload for healing, which is a huge advantage. Use that. Stay close to the payload for free sustain instead of pushing far ahead and getting picked off without health pack access.

There's a Jade Pond banquet area where you can smash Fruit of Immortality for the Prank of Monkey King achievement, by the way. Cosmetic side goal, but easy free points.

Playing as defender

You don't have payload healing, so positioning matters way more. Use ambush spots in tunnels, behind the bridge, and around choke points, especially in foggy sections, to catch attackers off guard.

Use the elevated positions. Defenders can hold high-ground angles on all three sections and punish attackers who push the obvious routes.

When fog rolls in, swap your strategy immediately. If you set up a sniper hold with Hawkeye and Black Widow, those heroes are now dead weight. Have a backup plan with closer-range picks like Punisher, Iron Fist, or Magik ready to swap to.

Run at least two strategists. One alone won't be enough because of the limited health packs.

Watch the flanks religiously. The map has vertical flanking routes that bypass the obvious chokes. With fog reducing visual confirmation, you can't even see flankers coming most of the time. Either pre-place body-blocking heroes near your healers or run a Loki to teleport-cancel a flanker dive.

General things that matter

The fog mechanic is the single most important thing to understand on this map. It shakes up the game in unpredictable ways. Long-range heroes are at a huge disadvantage, while melee, flankers, and divers become super useful. If you only know how to play one phase, you'll feel useless half the match.

Manage health carefully. With few health packs available, survivability becomes extremely important. Don't take aggressive trades if you can't get healed. Disengage and reset rather than dying for chip damage.

Namor's monstro spawn point ability is particularly great here since the spawns can be hidden in the fog. If you have a Namor on your team, drop them in the foggy sections for free area denial that attackers can't see coming.

Use ranged projectiles through fog. They can briefly clear vision, giving you a sightline window before the fog returns. Heroes like Hawkeye and Black Widow can still get value during fog phases by using their shots to scout, even if landing kills is harder.

The verticality on this map is among the highest in the game. Heroes with flight, wall climb, or grapples get massive value. Iron Man, Storm, Spider-Man, Rocket Raccoon, and Venom all eat well from elevated positions and side routes.

Last thing: this map rewards practice more than most. The fog timing is something you learn from repetition, not from a guide. Take some time to explore the map. Try different heroes and see which ones click for you. Learn those flank routes and figure out where the strong positions are. The more you play it, the more you'll discover. If you queue Heart of Heaven blind on ranked, you're going to lose to teams who've already learned the fog rhythm.
