How to Play Shin-Shibuya

The setup you need to know

Shin-Shibuya is a Convergence map (sometimes called hybrid), where attackers must first capture an initial objective and then escort a payload (the "Spider") to its destination. It operates as a Convergence-type map featuring convoy escort mechanics divided into three progressive sections. The attacking team must first secure the convoy vehicle, then escort it through urban streets to a midpoint checkpoint, and finally guide it to the ultimate destination.

The map is destructible, ever-changing. Altering the terrain can be as crucial as landing a perfect shot. Walls, structures, and even cover positions can be broken to open new sightlines or remove enemy cover.

Playing as attacker

For the capture phase (point one), this is where Convergence stagger problems hit hardest. Push together as a team or get picked off individually. There are plenty of healing packs in rooms near the objective, so use them.

Phase One priority: wall destruction and establishing flanking routes early. If you can break a key wall, you open angles defenders weren't expecting and dictate the fight pace.

For the convoy phases, Phase Two: maximize back alley utilization and coordinate elevated positioning. The map has tons of side alleys that bypass main chokes. Send a flanker or two through these while your main team pressures the convoy path.

Phase Three: execute deep flanking maneuvers while maintaining objective pressure. The final stretch rewards teams that can split attention between the obvious approach and unexpected angles. Don't W-key into the defender setup.

Get heroes onto rooftops. Spider-Man, Psylocke, Iron Man, Storm, and Black Widow all eat well from elevated positions. If your team is all grounded, you're going to get angled on from every rooftop on the map.

Playing as defender

For the capture point, hold the natural chokes and watch the rooftops. The biggest mistake defenders make on Shin-Shibuya is stacking ground-level while attackers angle from above. Have at least one player covering vertical threats.

The map's not nearly as obtuse as Spider-Islands or Yggdrasill Path, but you rarely get a chance to control the objective if you're playing on defense. It's also an absolute nightmare for Strategists since there are way too many routes for a melee Duelist to hide, attack, and escape.

This is critical: your Strategists need protection. Spider-Man, Psylocke, and Black Panther will dive your healers constantly. Either run anti-dive supports (Loki, Mantis with sleep) or position your healers with their tank for body-blocking.

For the convoy phases, use Groot walls to lock down alleyway approaches. The map's tight corridors are tailor-made for wall denial.

Destructible cover works both ways. If attackers broke a wall to open a sightline, your previous safe spot is now exposed. Reposition rather than holding the same angle.

General things that matter

Success on Shin-Shibuya heavily favors teams with diverse mobility options. Characters capable of utilizing vertical space, destroying environmental barriers, and executing flanking maneuvers will find significant advantages throughout all three phases.

Environmental destruction, flanking route mastery, and vertical positioning are the three pillars of success on this map. Master those three things and you'll outplay teams that only run main path.

Most of the rooms near the objective come with healing packs, so make sure to use them whenever you need them. Free sustain is huge in a map this dive-heavy.

Audio cues matter more here than on most maps. The distinct sounds of Iron Man's flight, Spider-Man's webs, or shield activations give you vital intel about enemy positions, which matters because so many heroes can come from unexpected angles.

For flying heroes specifically, be aware that some rooftops or higher areas have invisible barriers or restrictive skyboxes. Don't commit to a fly-around without knowing if you'll hit a wall mid-flight.

Last thing: this map punishes inflexibility hard. The first checkpoint is more like Hanamura's defensive setup, the middle is alleyway combat, and the final stretch opens back up. If you locked Hulk for the cap and never swap, you're going to feel useless in the open sections. Have at least two heroes ready per role before you queue.

Also fair warning: Shin-Shibuya has had a complicated history with the competitive rotation. It was retired briefly and brought back due to player demand, so if you're queuing in ranked, double-check that it's still in the current ranked pool for your season.
