How to Play Central Park
The setup you need to know
This is a Convergence map, not a pure Convoy. In Convergence, attackers have to capture the objective area and then escort the convoy to its destination. Defenders have the job of stopping attackers from doing so.
Central Park is a convoy map with an initial domination-style beginning. Attackers begin by ambushing the ritual site and attempt to capture the objective. If successful, the convoy will appear and begin section 2.
The map features Recursive Destruction, similar to Midtown. Destroyed structures rebuild themselves and reveal interior areas. The advantage is you can enter internal sections for extra battling space. The disadvantage is that being on one of the interacted structures disrupts your positioning while it builds. The second and final checkpoint have interactive damaged structures, especially parts of the castle.
Playing as attacker
For the capture phase (point one), you're ambushing a domination-style point. The map has multiple routes from the spawn area. The blue route is always the convoy/default path. The red route is a simple alternate route at the start.
There's a cliff right out of spawn that any character who can fly, wall climb, jump long distances, or use utility for movement can cross. Captain America can spring jump across the gap to flank the objective, and a Groot wall can create a path so the entire team can use it. This is the highest-impact play on point one. If you can get behind the defenders via the cliff route, you cap quickly.
For the convoy phase, two primary flanking options enable attacking teams to pressure defensive formations from multiple angles. The yellow route is the most commonly used flanking approach due to its direct connection from the attacking spawn area. The elevated extension (teal path) branches from this route and offers superior positioning within the castle's building structures.
A specialized back-route becomes available once the convoy reaches the halfway point, enabling left-side flanking maneuvers. This delayed accessibility creates dynamic tactical options. Don't try to use this route too early, it doesn't open up until later.
For the final castle push, an internal staircase system accessible exclusively through the tower infiltration route leads to a critically underutilized vantage point within the castle's upper levels. This position provides exceptional oversight of the final objective area while remaining relatively protected. If your team finds this spot and posts a sniper there, you can break entire defensive holds.
Playing as defender
Defending teams who successfully prevent objective capture during the first phase unlock achievement rewards, including credits and cosmetic items. Free incentive to actually try on defense.
For point one, hold the ritual site choke and watch the cliff flank. The cliff is the single most punishing flank route on this map. If you ignore it, a Captain America or Spider-Man will be in your backline before you realize what happened. Have one player on flank watch.
For the convoy phase, the Recursive Destruction is your friend. If attackers broke walls to open sightlines, wait for the rebuild to restore your cover, then re-engage from the restored position.
Defenders can establish a highly effective vantage point accessible through a specific navigation sequence by ascending a collapsed wall section and passing through a concealed opening. This elevated position provides exceptional oversight. Find these spots in practice mode before you queue. Knowing the off-meta high ground is worth more than the meta-correct hero pick on this map.
For the final castle hold, stack near the payload. The interior layout of the castle is tight enough that one good chokehold from Groot walls + Peni nest can shut down attackers indefinitely. Just don't get baited into chasing flankers and leaving the point.
General things that matter
The cliff gap on point one defines this map. Heroes with vertical mobility get massive value, while grounded heroes without their team's support feel useless. If you pick a non-mobile hero with no flier or Groot support, you're going to be staring at the gap while your team flanks without you.
Poke comps shine here because of the long sightlines and narrow paths. If your team is brawl-focused and you keep losing, swap toward a poke comp with shields and ranged DPS. Trying to brawl across the staircases is a losing fight.
The Recursive Destruction is more useful on defense than offense here. Defenders get cover back, while attackers benefit more from keeping things broken. Track which buildings are about to rebuild and avoid standing on them when the rebuild starts.
Last thing: stagger management matters double on a Convergence map. The capture phase means a team wipe doesn't just cost you a fight, it potentially resets the entire capture progress. If half your team is dead, regroup at spawn and push together. Trickling onto the point one-by-one is how you lose Central Park.
Practice the cliff jumps in custom games. Knowing which heroes can make it across cleanly without a Groot wall is the difference between landing a clutch flank and walking off the edge into Dracula's eternal night.
