How to Play Spider-Islands

The setup you need to know

This is a Convoy map where one team escorts the Spider Convoy through three zones to help Spider-Zero return to action. Long sight lines on every point favor heroes with ranged capabilities. The center area of every point is very open, and the long hallway layout of the second point and most of the third point make flanking and melee heroes difficult to use.

The map also has a unique gimmick where Spider-Bots occasionally intervene to prevent the collapse of certain structures. You'll see spider-bots crawling on the roofs of these structures before destruction.

Playing as attacker

Only one chokepoint is available to attackers when entering the initial capture point. The attackers can widen the choke by destroying walls to their left, and two health packs become available when taking the long path around the buildings on the left side.

Point one starts with a notably super long hallway that channels teams toward the main corner. The Yellow Path comes from an upper exit door giving high-ground access, and the Red Path uses a less-frequented third spawn door through a side building, which is great for hitting their defensive setup at the second bend without going head-on.

Focus on farming ults quickly in this opening section since the team that gets the first ults typically starts a snowball to win point one.

Point two is where the water hazard becomes everything. The ledge on the attacker's left side throughout the middle of the second point path is an extremely strong tool. Heroes with displacement abilities can consistently get environmental KOs here, and knocking just one enemy off the edge can quickly turn into a fight win.

There's also a hidden pink path that cuts under the blue route, taking you to the back side where the green route wraps around. The entry point houses a health kit, making it a great emergency safe zone.

For the final push, the final room has limited entry points, making the side paths crucial for attackers to avoid being funneled into a kill zone. Don't just W-key through the front.

Playing as defender

Hold the first chokepoint hard. Since attackers only have one main way in initially, this is your strongest hold of the match. It's often acceptable for defenders to concede some initial space until the finish line comes into view, then consolidate defense at the critical chokepoints.

On point two, watch the ledge. The same water that you can push attackers into can push you off too. Stay toward the inside of the map on the second point to avoid getting knocked off the ledge.

Watch every flank route. The least frequented spawn exit leads directly into the side building complex, giving attackers rapid access to defensive positions without engaging primary chokepoints, which excels at catching defensive teams off-guard when they concentrate too heavily on the main convoy path. Always have one person scouting flanks instead of stacking on the main choke.

General things that matter

If you're losing a fight and a retreat seems unlikely, don't run away from the payload. It's better to stall some extra time than get staggered. One body on the payload halts it completely, so dying on point one at a time is much worse than dying together while contesting.

Ultimate management matters more here than on most maps. Track both enemy and allied ultimate charges, and bait out key defensive ults before committing your own offensive ones. On slower push maps like Spider-Islands, countering enemy ults with well-timed defensive ults creates crucial openings.

Don't run a Rush comp on defense. You need aerial mobility to deal with the verticality, so dive teams are stronger. Poke and dive both work here, but pure brawl struggles because of the long hallways and open spaces.

Last thing: practice the displacement spots on point two. The water pit is the single biggest swing on this map. Heroes like Invisible Woman, Magneto, Storm, and Doctor Strange can win entire fights with one good knockback if positioned right.
